Spellbound Poetry Slam

Led by Michelle Dodd, a poet who has been slamming for over a decade, this is a new space for a side of Virginia that hasn't had consistent poetry slams. Dodd's goal is to open a new avenue for the writers and performers of Charlottesville. She wants to give people a platform and a memorable experience.

What is a poetry slam?

A poetry slam is a vocal competition. Each poet has 3 minutes and 10 seconds to perform a poem of their choosing for a group of 5 judges, who will score their work from 0.0-10.0.

Compete for a chance to be on a 5-person team that will be going to the Southernfried Regional Poetry slam in June of 2024.

Bring your poems! Bring your energy! Bring your heart! Leave it all on the stage! Reward yourself, knowing you performed your poetry to the best of your ability! Meet other poets who share your passion and ambition! Make connections! Fall in love with their work and your own!

This is more than just a slam! This is a hub for creativity and inclusion.

Let's go!

Doors & Sign up sheet opens @ 7:00 PM

Led by VCA songwriting fellow Orion Faruque, this writing workshop is open to all writers of any level and, while it will contain some songwriting specific techniques, is designed to encourage participants to articulate their thoughts with ease. Over the course of the evening, participants will take part in a number of writing exercises to help ideas and lyrics exit their minds.
